Summary
Basic summary of gameplay or storyline.

With stunning attention to detail and a full license from the actual World Cup, WORLD CUP '98 might well be the most realistic soccer game on any platform. The EA Sports game will take you right back to the fierce competition of the World Cup itself, with all 10 active stadiums from the event portrayed in full-detail. Since the game features 32 teams from as many countries, you'll be able to try on the personalities of all sorts of squads including Italy, Brazil, France, and the United States. WORLD CUP allows you to play in five distinct modes, including World Cup, in which you guide your favorite team through the grueling tournament; World Cup Classics, which lets you relive some of the best matchups in World Cup history; Friendly; Penalty Shootout; and a Practice mode, which gives you the advantage of practicing your offense, defense, shooting, passing, and more. The game's deep, varied audio commentary, flashy replays, and lush graphics make it much like watching the sport on TV. Add to that a long list of options and play modes, and you've got a total score.
